Research Interests

I am broadly interested in the evolutionary and ecological relationships between pathogens and hosts, especially the evolution of drug resistance. Resistance to, and eventual failure of, drugs that we commonly rely on may be one of the biggest challenges facing modern medicine in our lifetimes. Countering and containing the spread of emerging drug resistance will require the development of techniques that can be used early on to detect signatures of resistance. The focus of my research is to improve our understanding of the limits of a recently proposed approach (Mideo & Bailey et al, 2016) to the detection of drug resistance in malaria infections.
